Anyone with a dog or a cat has seen their fur baby scratch like crazy. They seem so uncomfortable and we want nothing more than to help them. So what is causing this itch and how can you treat it? Let's find out:
1. Environmental Allergies
2. Food Allergies
Many animals have food intolerances, especially to chicken or wheat, which causes them to itch. Adding a fatty acid supplement to your pet’s regular food can help address dry skin issues and keep your dog’s coat healthy.
3. Dry Skin
Many factors could be giving your pet dry skin, including the weather or fatty acid deficiencies. Your pet might be trying to comfort this itch by licking or scratching.
4. Parasites
Fleas, ticks, and mites are extremely common in cats and dogs. While tick are visible to the naked eye, fleas are harder to detect and mites are microscopic. Always consult your vet if you think your pet might haver a parasite problem.
5. Anxiety or Boredom
Sometimes your pet might lick or chew on their paws out of anxiety or boredom in response to fear, stress, or inadequate stimulation. Make sure your pet is getting plenty of exercise and love. Train your dog to chew bones or toys, rather than their feet.
